Snape

Snape Parish Council first began exploring the possibility of designating certain roads as Quiet Lanes in 2019. The process began with traffic surveys which were carried out by Suffolk County Council. These identified five lanes in the village which would be suitable for the status.

They were already popular with walkers, cyclists and horse riders, and the parish council wanted to encourage this. The Parish Council then linked with East Suffolk Council and Suffolk County Council to bring the idea to fruition.

The five lanes were formally designated on 16th March 2021, and link across the village with the popular Sailor’s Path to Aldeburgh.

Glemsford

The idea of having a Quiet Lane in this West Suffolk Village was enthusiastically received by both Glemsford Parish Council and locals alike when it was suggested by a resident. The road, one of three adjoining lanes which form a loop known as the horseshoe, was already popular with villagers and visitors who knew it was a relatively safe place for activities such as walking, horse riding, jogging and cycling.

Quiet Lanes Suffolk were able to support Glemsford Parish Council with advice and guidance, providing them with mapping and templates for letters, plus organising the legal notices which needed to be printed in the local press. Suffolk County Council were also able to help with a grant towards the costs of the project.
