Advice for Walkers

Best foot forward

Maybe you go out to stretch your legs, or enjoy a constitutional. Perhaps you mosey, meander, ramble or just amble. Whatever you call it, exploring a Quiet Lane on foot is one of life’s simple pleasures.

Discover

Walking along a Quiet Lane is a great way to see the beautiful Suffolk countryside, but this is just the start! Many connect with footpaths that will take you across fields, through woods and by rivers - why not explore further? Discover Suffolk has all the information on local walks and cycling routes you’ll need to take your journey onwards.

Be aware

Quiet Lanes are designed to be used by everyone, so remember there may be cyclists, horse riders and motorists on the Quiet Lane at the same time as you. Keep your eyes and ears open (take out the earphones especially!) so you’ll be aware of traffic as well as the sights and sounds of the countryside.

Dog walking

Quiet Lanes are fantastic places to walk with your dog - there are so many different smells for your four-legged to investigate! However, as a Quiet Lane is used by many different users, it’s very important for their safety to keep them on a lead unless they are well trained. Also, please clear up any little presents they leave behind on their walk.

Be seen

Wearing bright clothes can make a big difference to your visibility and safety.

Leave nothing

Keep Britain Tidy - please take any litter home with you so everyone can enjoy our unspoilt countryside.
